          Cloud Computing Solutions
          Cloud Connection

We help you discern, design, and deliver the best cloud solutions for your business.

There are no one-size-fits-all versions of any cloud technology when it comes to real-world applications. That’s why we view cloud computing technologies as raw materials that you can combine in multiple ways to achieve your desired business outcomes.

          3 Primary Cloud Solutions
          Private Cloud Computing Options
Private Clouds are resource pools run for a specific organization, controlled and managed by that organization (either with their own personnel/equipment or a third party’s personnel/equipment). A private cloud might be a company’s own data center, a fully managed and hosted off-premise environment, or some combination thereof.

          » Self-Run Private Cloud

          » Managed Private Cloud (Co-Lo)

          » Dedicated Private Cloud

Public Cloud Computing Options Public Clouds are built by a cloud provider, and organizations effectively rent compute capabilities in a shared environment controlled and managed by that provider.

          » SaaS Public Cloud

          » PaaS Public Cloud

          » IaaS Public Cloud

           Hybrid Cloud Computing

Hybrid Clouds combine aspects of private and public clouds. For example, a company may host email in their own private cloud, but archive email in a provider’s public cloud.

First, our cloud experts work with you to discern where you are today, your business and IT context, and what you want to accomplish. Then, our architects help you to design and deliver the cloud computing solutions that meet your objectives. When it comes to execution, we have deep partnerships with best-of-breed providers in every cloud category—from private cloud to software as a service. Our goal is to deliver the right solutions, built upon the foundation of your business needs.

          discernment - (noun)
          /di's?rnm?nt/
The ability to judge well; the quality of being able to grasp and comprehend what is obscure

3 Step Cloud Solution Process. Discern: Assess business requirements and technology options. Design: Evaluate deployment scenarios. Deliver: Execute the go-forward plan.

          There are no bad choices
All of these cloud technologies offer substantial benefits to both IT and the business. There are seven primary dimensions in a cloud solution, and our ratings indicate potential levels of challenge for realizing the benefits of each dimension. Our ratings are the foundation of our Discernment process, which we use to help determine optimal cloud solutions to meet customer objectives.

          Cloud Computing Matrix
          Control:
Cloud technologies offer organizations different levels of control over their environment. How much control do you want to have over your total cloud environment?

          Green Dot
          Maximum:
Your organization has total control over the entire cloud environment.

          Yellow Dot
          Limited:
Control over your cloud environment is shared between your organization and a third-party provider(s).

          Red Dot
          Minimal:
Your cloud environment is primarily controlled by a third-party provider(s).
          Security:
Cloud technologies offer organizations varying levels of control over both security policy and regulatory compliance. How much control do you want over security issues?

          Green Dot
          Maximum Control:
Your organization has total control over the entire cloud environment.

          Yellow Dot
          Mixed Control:
A third-party(s) is maintaining the environment but offers your organization some security control.

          Red Dot
          Minimal Control:
Almost all of the security controls are in the hands of a third-party provider(s).
          Flexibility:
All cloud solutions are highly flexible—it’s one of the primary benefits of the cloud. How important are varying degrees of flexibility in terms of IT’s ability to customize and adapt cloud technology?

          Green Dot
          Maximum:
Your organization controls the cloud environment and has the ability to customize it to suit your specific purposes.

          Yellow Dot
          Limited:
A third-party(s) is maintaining the environment, so flexibility is somewhat limited according to the terms and capabilities offered by the specific provider(s).

          Red Dot
          Minimal:
Your cloud environment is primarily controlled by a third-party proA third party(s) controls the environment, and flexibility is limited according to each provider’s parameters.
          Elasticity:
One of the key advantages of cloud technologies is the ability to ability to expand, contract, and prioritize resource pools based on dynamic need. Scalability is a signature benefit of the cloud, regardless of type. What happens when demand increases beyond current capacity, whether permanently or for a specific duration?

          Green Dot
          Automatic:
Your environment is right-sized in real-time, regardless of point-in-time capacity requirements

          Yellow Dot
          Semi-Automatic:
There is some automated elasticity, but depending on the amount of capacity required it may not be executable in real-time.

          Red Dot
Fixed: The total capacity is fixed—expansion is a manual process.
          Management:
Cloud technologies can offload the tactical burdens of IT infrastructure management either to automation or a third-party provider. As a result, IT gains valuable time to focus on more strategic business objectives. To what degree do you want to relinquish management of your IT infrastructure in order to spend more time on your core business?

          Green Dot
          Minimum:
The provider is carrying the infrastructure load.

          Yellow Dot
          Medium:
Somewhere in the neighborhood of 50/50. There’s still tactical work to be done, but the responsibility is shared with the provider.

          Red Dot
          Maximum:
Automation may take care of far more than it used to, but your resources are still managing the environment.
          Resilience:
Resilience is the ability to quickly recover in the event of a service disruption, or the proactive prevention of service disruptions. Every cloud environment has the potential for maximum resiliency – the real question is how much work will an organization have to do to achieve it?

          Green Dot
          Minimum Effort:
Resiliency is guaranteed (according to specific SLAs) by the provider.

          Yellow Dot
          Medium Effort:
Resiliency is a shared responsibility between the provider and the organization.

          Red Dot
          Maximum Effort:
Resiliency must be provided by the organization.
          Mobility:
Users want access to data from their expanding array of devices. Our Mobility rating measures how much effort is likely required to enable mobile users and offer convenient outside access to the organization’s data and compute resources.

          Green Dot
          Reduced effort :
Provider has enabled mobility within their offering.

          Yellow Dot
          Medium effort :
The technology exists to provide wide access, but it must be set up and managed either by the organization, or in conjunction with a third-party provider.

          Red Dot
          Maximum effort:
          The client must produce mobility.
          A Note on Cost:
Cost-reduction is often cited as a primary driver when considering cloud technologies. We have experienced ourselves, and with customers, that in many cases a dramatic reduction in overall IT spend is not the outcome of adopting cloud solutions. From a total-cost-of-ownership perspective, the result is often about the same level of overall spend – with a clear change in the type of spend, a shift from large capital expenditures toward ongoing operational expenditures. Instead of spending money on hardware and software licenses to establish an on-premise datacenter, or to stand up gear in a co-located datacenter (mostly Capex), third-party cloud environments offer everything as a service. The organization consumes the service, and pays a fee, usually inclusive of the compute resources and the software needed to maintain the environment. In the case of Software-as-a-Service, even the application layer becomes an operating expense.

          Tenancy

          Single:
You have a dedicated, walled-off hardware environment. You are likely to be responsible for your own SLAs.

Multi: At best, your provider will leverage software defined networking to provide a walled-off computing environment. More commonly, your provider balances the workloads to meet your SLAs, but you do not have a physically dedicated hardware environment.
