Rated 4 out of 5Â by Garrett Windows 7 on a MacBook Pro
Recently loaded Windows 7 on my dual boot MacBook Pro 15 inch portable (mid-late 2009 model running Snow Leopard).
The MacBook Pro Bootcamp instructions for this computer advise that you can install Windows Vista and Windows XP, but actually Windows 7 also does fine. I got Windows 7 Professional since I want to be able to run Windows XP and the Windows 7 Home edition does not provide for that.
Installation went flawlessly - using BootCamp, I partitioned the hard drive and then installed Windows 7 on the appropriate partition without any hangups. Program installation was also easy.
I am not a fan of Internet Explorer and downloading and using Mozilla Firefox has also gone well.
So far it is working fine, except that I cannot change the track pad controls so that they work the way I want. The changes one makes on the Mac side of the house to control the track pad do not carry over, but Windows seems to offer limited ways to modify them.
As is usual with Microsoft products, this edition of Windows defaults you toward other Microsoft services - now, for example, unless you set controls otherwise you are defaulted to Bing for search. I find this annoying, but not a major problem.
Overall, so far, a relatively trouble-free Microsoft product that performs as advertised. It really does seem simpler that previous editions of Windows.

Windows 7 is a big leap in the right direction. I prefer a Mac but in my line of work I need the best of both worlds. Windows 7 has become a much easier OS to work with.
