Going beyond the industry standards with unique innovations from fifth-generation IBM X-Architecture technology (eX5), the new IBM BladeCenter HX5 enables unprecedented performance and utilization in a blade form factor for database and virtualization. With enhanced MAX5 scalability, the HX5 blade offers memory capacity of up to 640GB in a double-wide blade. The result is optimal server utilization with more virtual machines per system and larger and faster databases.

IBM MAX5 for BladeCenter is a memory expansion blade that attaches to HX5 2-socket blade servers and provides the following system architecture features:
- IBM EXA memory controller
- 24 DIMM slots and 6 memory buffers
- Four DIMM slots per memory buffer (two per channel)
- VLP DDR3 memory in 4GB and 8GB capacities, 1333MHz.
