Rated 2 out of 5Â by Sinkers Backup quality and ease of use deteriorates with each "upgrade".
I purchased five of these units to evaluate for backing up laptops that are used in the field by three of our trucking companies. The initial install was simple and straight forward and seemed to work well. We typically backed up a primary "C" drive and a data partition "D" drive.
Using the default backup scheme, backups seemed fine, except for a small number of files that the software had name recognition problems with. These small problems were taken care of by renaming the problem files.
We typically encourage our drivers to keep the software as current as possible and all was fine until Smartware 2.0 was released and installed. Two of the laptops would freeze during the software installtion and require a hard restart. Neither of the these laptops would complete the install. All of the laptops are Lenovo thinkpads with Windows Pro 7 installed. After our IT people attempted the install and found problems, we decided to pull the passports and use them for external storage rather than backup devices.
About like horseshoes - close but no ringers.

Rated 5 out of 5 Goes with me everywhere - Superb Performance/Confidence
I take this little jewel with me everywhere. I keep all my business files on the Passport and do not have to worry about my older computers crashing and losing my files. It also provides me with the flexibility to plug in and share folders and files of information with my associates. I won't be without my Passport and Book WD units!!

I love My Passport. It's helped me expand my video and photo collection for all my projects. However, when I purchased the bilingual edition, I thought I would be able to go back and forth between Macs and PCs. This is only partially true. Even though I read the packaging multiple times and asked BestBuy help staff, it turned out it was exactly what I didn't want it to be. You can go back and forth between Macs and PCs, but you have to reformat the disk and loose all your stuff. Fortunately, I found a way to do what I needed after the fact.

..and many more, i am really free of any tensions with this device, its quite reliable, the SmartWare is Great, easy to use security softwares.. USB 3.0 works quite fast, fits in your pocket, its actually even smaller than my real Passport. Great for collectors of any sort of data, wether they are photos or movies or any other types of media files... no complaints with anything. Highly Portable.
I am using this same device on windows and on macbook too, i have changed the file system for that but no issues regarding anything works like liquid in both the windows and mac. its awesome.
This is my first WD product, i was feeling unsecured about my data in the begining, but i am using it for about 1 year now, now i know its height of reliability. i feel my data is totally secured with My Passport.
