I decided to purchase N900 router after reading good reviews on the different websites and to replace my ASUS RT-N16. 7 LAN ports was a welcoming addition and allowed me to replace my old switch as well. However, this is where the problems started.
After upgrading router to the latest firmware 1.06.28 during initial configured it was locking up every day at least once, and network connections was reset every few hours. Basically the router became unavailable for both Wi-Fi and LAN clients. The indicators weren't flashing and the router didn't feel hot so it wasn't due to the overheat. Some people on the Community forum suggested to purchase a laptop cooler but why would I spend more money on the router? Besides it did have a whole at the bottom with what looks like a fan but I have never seen it working so it must be just for show.
All attempts to downgrade to recovery firmware, tickets with technical support, tweking configuration didn't result in anything. Finally the router was RMA'ed.
Few days ago I have received a replacement router with a firmware 1.01.x To my surprise the very first firmware is the most stable of them all. So far the router didn't lock up at all. I decided not to upgrade to the latest to avoid the issues.
The connectivity still looks a bit unstable (some web-sites load quick while others might hang and you have to refresh) but it's better than nothing.
My verdict: It has some potential but a way better Q&A is required (or may be replacing whole Networking Development Team).

I added this router to my network to have the faster speed of 5Ghz and the additional ports. Previously I used a Linksys with DD-WRT without any hiccups or problems. This router drops signals on both the 2.4 and 5 Ghz ranges where the DD-WRT Linksys has no trouble. I have to reboot the router every other day or so because of the issues. Tried several different configurations and none work. Watching the signal on a wifimeter, you can see the signals drop, even in the room with the router and full strength. No happy but I've had over a month and can't return, hoping a firmware upgrade fixes the issues or DD-WRT gets support soon.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Dantana Easy to install and use, high speed wireless has limited range.
I thought this product provided reasonable performance for a good price. The seven network outlets were something I needed for all the wired outlets in my house, and this met my needs. The N900 was very easy to set up and install. The higher speed bandwidth has somewhat limited range, that is the only disappointing aspect of this product.
