Ok, so the first reviewer said it was a breeze to setup. Maybe so, but that wasn't my experience. I run Watchguard firewalls on my enterprise backbone, with a variety of Netopia, Sonic, etc. firewall appliances humming along fine as VPN endpoints.
I needed to upgrade DSL service to a branch office so I tried the NetGear FVS318. It works fine provisioning Internet access, is easy to configure, etc. etc. - so why am I not recommending it? Simple - IT WILL NOT NEGOTIATE PHASE 2 TUNNELS.
Phase 1 works great and the VPN gateway to gateway passes all the right encryption. But phase 2 will not get past IDLE not matter what I tried. After spending two hours on the phone with three different Netgear techs using remote desktop to see for their own eyes my settings on both sides were exactly matched, they threw in the towel and fell back on the Watchguard being unsupported so they could not help.
It's probably a great little toy if you use Netgear's client software, or for that matter it may work for others using third party security appliances, but for me, with a mature VPN environment that is by the book this thing was a waste of time and money.

Bought to replace a router and switch in a small office. Old router had failed and desperately wanted to reduce some of the mess under the desk. Router has sufficient number of ports for everything we use so fewer boxes, less clutter now. Works like a charm. A breeze to set-up!
