I have successfully set up this scanner on both Windows XP and Windows 7 (64 bit). The Windows 7 software was not on the installation disc but was available on the HP web site.
The scanner performs well and should be fine for small office needs. It is USB-only, so cannot be shared on a network. I programmed two buttons, one for single-side and one for duplex scanning.
In operation, the software is a little clunky. As soon as you hit the scan button, a box pops up saying "scanning is in progress", however, you won't hear the scanner start to work until 20 seconds or so. Once it warms up, it does its job quickly and efficiently.
I wanted a network scanner, but those cost $1,300+, so the Scanjet for $500 is a bargain.
