Stanley Electric (London, OH), a leading manufacturer of exterior vehicle lighting, was running a data center that could no longer meet the company’s needs. They were still using VMware 3.5, and their limited infrastructure prevented them from increasing their virtual servers—and to top it all off, there was no way to monitor system performance. Michael Lawson, IT Systems Engineer at Stanley Electric, realized it was time to upgrade, and he made the call to PC Connection.
After working on several previous projects with Stanley Electric, the PC Connection team was ready to jump right in. We worked with Michael and his entire group to assess and identify the problem areas of the current infrastructure. As the PC Connection Senior Systems Engineer, I put that assessment data to work. Armed with a comprehensive view of his data center situation, Michael and his team planned out the necessary expansion in just a few days. Next, we guided Michael in product selection—from the updated VMware vSphere 5.1 with vCenter to the Dell servers he knew would be the right fit.
“It was an excellent learning experience,” Michael said of the whole project. “I was able to take a lot from it. There are times when I even go back to the notes that the systems engineer documented just to make sure I’m going down the right path.” We provided Michael with new knowledge that will undoubtedly help him tackle future projects, and of course he can always call on PC Connection.
“Anytime we have a big project, PC Connection is the first company we look to work with because of the knowledge they’ve passed to us from previous projects,” Michael said.
