Rated 1 out of 5 3TB drives don't work with Linux
Startech's website states this works with Linux with up to a 4TB hard drive. However, a 3TB hard drive does not work with this product with RHEL 6 Linux (2.6.18) or Debian Alpha Linux (3.2.0, the latest kernel). The errors in the logs on both systems are the same. Using a different computer does not change the error either. For example,
"Buffer I/O error on device sdc, logical block 0
usb 1-7: device not accepting address 12, error -71
sd 15:0:0:0: Device offlined - not ready after error recovery"
It is notable that with this dock 3TB drives are recognized by Windows 7. In other words, the hardware is not defective, it just does not work with Linux per the specifications on startech's site stated.
I also find that inserting the drive must be done carefully. The drive does not always seat properly, and as a result does not power up. Reseating usually fixes it on the first try.

This product was one of the most useful and ease of use I have ever had the pleasure of using. I would tell anyone of this docking device that the SATA is a brease to use and the IDE part of it is also good. Comes with all and any cords needed to use it anywhere in the world. They thought of everything in this unit. Great buy and great value.
