Rated 5 out of 5Â by Maddhatter74 Just an awesome product!
Out of the box, linked to my wireless with no problems. Immediately recognized my WD Media Server and I was off watching my digital movies. No problems streaming Netflix, Hulu and anything else.
Highly recommended!

I had a cheap unit similar to this that I picked up in Taiwan. It always worked until it died after about 6 years. This device hangs, forgets how to play video (DIVX) files (haven't tried audio, photos, etc.), has trouble finding the drive. WD makes pretty good drives; this makes me suspect WD should stick to what it knows. Gave it 1 star because 'no' stars is not an option.

Sometimes I have trouble connecting to network shares, but this player plays just about anything you download.

I replaced (upgraded) my apple TV with a WDTV live HD and i could not be happier! Apple TV had air play, but I was limited to file formats that itunes could read, which is some mp4s... My WDTV has never failed to play seamlessly any file i throw at it from my wifi networked mac my book drive.
To set up a home "cloud" media drive, I simply set my Airport Extreme base station with the usb connected my book to broadcast a windows host, and pointed the WDTV at the "windows server". Now i can access all my media files, watch netflix, hulu, and listen to music from my media center for a great price (read: less than an apple tv). I really am happy that this kind of magic exists, and i can afford it!
