Rated 4 out of 5Â by PCUG Better than Apple TV, but....
I have two of these units in my home, one in my Living Room and one in the Master Bedroom. They were very easy to install.
I use these mostly for Netflix, but I also play movies from my notebooks, desktops, servers, and a NAS. I have run into the same problems as many others, with the units forgetting how to play movies it played before. Many times it told me there was no media in a folder when there was. Other times it cannot find the other computers on the network, or it will hiccup and I will have to start the movie again. At least it remembers where it left off.
WD needs to keep up with the existing network adapter drivers, since these units do not have their own network adapter built-in.
I have an AC high-speed router, but I cannot use my AC network adapters, since the latest update does not support the AC network adapters. (No drivers) I need to use the 5G band, but am limited by the lack of drivers.
WD also needs to keep up with the available codecs in order to support ALL video files. It is a pain to have to convert .flac movies and other codecs the units do not support.
The video images are very good, but there are often very long load times, especially with HD or Blue Ray quality movies. I also have had problems with these units skipping portions in the middle of DVD images and high density movies. It seems the units forget the FPS setting for the movie, then remembers it. This is with 29.97fps and 30fps movies. It will be a REAL pain if I discover that I need to lower the frame rate for all my movies!
I would have given these units 5 stars, except for these irritating problems, because they have great video quality and just keep on going, which speaks to the component quality.
So, how about it WD? Can you update the codecs and wireless adapter drivers soon?
I am waiting.....
PS: Why do I see a notice that this feedback will not be posted on your site?

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Duerma The perfect player for all your multimedia needs!!!
The WD Live player is the best streaming player out of the Apple TV, Roku and Android. Simply for one reason. It plays your video files without the need for a lot conversion, file formatting and trans coding. It plays all my video from AVI to H.2xxx and more, also almost any digital audio format including FLAC because I have a lot of high resolution audio files. Even DD True HD and dts for my movies right on the device through my network. Again without any need of my server trans coding unlike Roku and Android player requires keeping the demand on you server low. External hard drive support makes keeping you local media a cinch especially that it retrieve info and cover information on the spot making it i real treat when going through your music or video collection. And lastly outstanding support of DNLA server programs like Play On which allows you to expand its features well beyond the player itself (my wife loves watching her Lifetime movies). However it's file flexibility does make it attractive to pirates though (cough-cough) that is the only downside to it, but the consumer don't care...
Thanks for reading..

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Jamblak Great features for a fair price
This small thing does it all: plays any format, access most streaming services, handles all audio streams. Can play local files from any USB, or access a NAS/net shares. All this for about $100 - can't get any better.
