Rated 4 out of 5Â by designergirl great except for scroll ring
I have always used this Kensington product-- upgrading it through the years. The new design looks great, LOVE the 4 buttons and the ball, but HATE the new scroll ring. It is cheap and flimsy feeling, and takes a second to "catch". The other downside is that you have to change your hand position to work it, with the old scroll wheel you simply used one finger to roll up or down.
Thus, it is LESS ergonomic, and NOT an improvement. It is no longer a 5-star product for me. I hope Kensington sees this and works on it.

I've used Kensington products for 15+ years. Just hate to do that stupid mouse dance. My wife's arthritis got me into trackball business, she finds it friendly for old hands. My new iMac now sports this optical Expert Mouse with new features and the same great performance (a right click even).

OldHand Not for Vista
Unique large ball 4 button trackball was brilliant on XP machines with programmable MouseWorks software. No such luck on Vista; MouseWorks not compatible and workarounds complex and unsatisfactory. "Built in" functions of Vista are rudimentary, lacking programmability or even the ability to set basic cursor functions that survive a reboot.
Hopefully version 2.0 of the SlimBlade Trackball driver will allow full functionality of this replacement technology.
